Raleigh Asphalt Crack Filling/Sealing
If you want to save the most money and get the longest lifespan out of your pavement, crack filling is something you need to know about.
Why You Never Want Cracks in your Pavement
While a crack may seem like something insignificant to begin with, pretty much every problem with pavement strength and integrity start out with these small cracks that then grow into bigger issues. In colder areas, moisture is going to expand when frozen and push your pavement apart as it does so.
In warmer areas, heat will dry out your pavement and that combined with heavy wear and tear can lead to the formation of many cracks all through it. Once a crack has formed, it will only grow larger as more moisture gets in or is sucked out and weakens the area further. Cracks generally extend far below the surface where you can’t see them, so it could be far worse than you think initially.
Regular Raleigh Pavement Maintenance
A scheduled program of pavement maintenance that includes sealcoating and crack filling will more than double the life cycle of your asphalt pavement and provide maximum curb appeal. Sealcoating and crack filling is a fraction of the cost of repairing or replacing asphalt pavement.
The key to effective crack filling and sealing is to repair and fill the cracks while they are small, as crack filling inhibits crack growth and keeps new cracks from forming. The smallest details matter and the great crew over here at Unlimited Paving works hard to cover each and every little detail we can.
How Are Cracks Repaired?
Regardless of who is doing your actual crack filling, the process is pretty standard and shouldn’t deviate much from what’s been proven time and time again to work. It all starts with cleaning the surface as well as you can, you want all dirt, dust, grass, and other debris gone before you do anything else.
Once the surface is totally clean, it’s ready for the crack sealant to be applied.
We’re careful to cover the cracks for as long as they may run, leaving just one part of a larger crack open to the elements could undo that crack repair in no time.
Please do note that extremely skinny cracks (generally less than 1/8 an inch) cannot be filled successfully, the filler just doesn’t have enough room to penetrate and fill the crack completely. If you have any real extensive cracking or alligator cracks, these areas need to be fully repaired and not just patched or filled in.
A patch on something that damaged won’t buy you much more time at all, it’ll likely probably end up being a loss of money.
